The next step in getting back into the art swing. The first airbrush piece, a study of Raptor Dusk, got done. I haven’t really airbrushed much of anything for a while, so it was nice to get back to the rhythm of the dagger stroke. It was also a chance to practice on stretched canvas, which I don’t do a lot. Airbrushes tend to like smooth surfaces, and it’s time-consuming to prep a canvas–which is why I usually shoot paint … Continue reading →

I’m having another go with the Cameron sketch. It really bugged me that I messed up the eyes. They were both a bit too high in the first version, and the human eye was a little on the small side. In the grand tradition of art, I’ve elected to call it a “study” and try again. Here’s the result after the first session: Already you can see the improvement. The image doesn’t fall into the “uncanny valley” like the first … Continue reading →

Some of you who have been known to lurk on MySpace might remember this one from a while back: It was a practice piece on canvas of a desert landscape. After finishing Kenai Running I, I decided that my supply cubby was looking a little messy, so I pulled everything out and reorganized. Among the stuff I found the half-finished Desert Morning Landscape painting. Almost more importantly, I also found my reference for the piece. As I’d been wondering what … Continue reading →
